Here’s a quick update from Lake Wenatchee… first of all, uh, what? posting on your blog from camp? Shouldn’t you be playing in the snow… how are you connected to the Internet?
Well, the girls are having fun playing cards and games in the lodge…. there are some Y-Guides boy groups… what are they up to? Uh… it’s like the Lord of the Flies out there. Good times!

This past Tuesday I went rock climbing with my 6 year old daughter and some of her friends. My daughter, Saffron and I are part of “Y-Guides” which is very similar to the Brownies, except that it’s put on by the YMCA and is specifically for Fathers and Daughters. We have a pretty active group with about 8 Daughter/Dad couples. We meet at least once a month (usually the second Tuesday of every month) and always have some kind of an organized project, craft, or activity for the girls. This month we planned to go “Rock Climbing”… and wow was it fun.

Week 2 of 2007 Calendar year has come and gone. So far, I am doing well, and sticking to my plans. Big news this week was finally being able to run again, and feeling no pain in my new orthotics. I continue to be in my pre-base/prep period of my training schedule, so again I remain focused on working out regularly, being more disciplined about strength training, flexibility training, and swimming. I am also trying to work out a good schedule to fit everything I want to do in to 24 hours x 7 days. Hmmm… this may be the most challenging part.
Here’s my week 2 status report…

There’s a scene in the movie “What It Takes”, where Peter Reid is trying to get a jump on his training for the 2005 Ironman season. And there’s been a “big snow storm” in Vancouver B.C. where he lives. All of the pools are closed so he can’t go swimming, and so he decided to go for a bike ride. He gets on his mountain bike and heads out. As he pulls out of his drive way you see him slipping and sliding barely able to keep balanced. When I watched this scene I thought, “That guy is crazy… he’s just going to hurt himself and not get any kind of a workout!”
So what did I do yesterday? With snow still on the ground in Seattle?
You guessed it… I went for a snow ride! (more…)
